Ronford-Baker Engineering was formed in 1966 as a collaboration between Ron Ford, who ran a camera rental business and Harry Baker, a talented engineer.
Initially set up as a maintenance facility for cameras and associated equipment, Ronford-Baker soon became known as a place to get ‘specials’ engineered for feature films. These films included “The Clockwork Orange” and “James Bond”.
One such special request was for an adjustable tripod for the
production of “Ryan’s Daughter”.
It needed to survive daily use
submerged in the sea.
This internationally Patented, and Academy Award winning, telescopic 4 tube design developed into a full range now used in all aspects of the film and television industry throughout the World.
In the late 1960s fluid heads had only 2 settings, on or off.
The continuing development of the technology led to a whole family of heads:
F2, F3, F4, F7, F15, F15S, F30, mini7.
The introduction of a counterbalance system gave us the ‘2000’ family:
2003, 2004, 2015, 2030
Our newest range, the ATLAS, has all the tried and tested attributes that our company was built on, strength, service life and reliability, and adds the functionality demanded by the modern industry – 180 degrees of tilt, variable fluid power including ‘free’ running, infinitely variable counterbalance, and massive payload capability. All whilst maintaining the effortlessly fluid feel synonymous with Ronford-Baker heads.
Ronford-Baker is still owned and run by the same ‘family’ of hands-on people, who collectively have over 200 years experience in the design, development, manufacture, service and use of camera support equipment.
Designed and completely manufactured in the UK, Ronford Bakers
Internationally Patented fluid heads range from the F7 and Series 200
heads to our newest range, the ATLAS.
As with all our heads the Atlas
has all the tried and tested attributes that our company was built on,
strength, service life and reliability, and adds the functionality
demanded by the modern industry – 180 degrees of tilt, variable fluid
power including ‘free’ running, infinitely variable counterbalance, and
massive payload capability.
All whilst maintaining the effortlessly fluid feel synonymous with Ronford-Baker heads.
The “Atlas” is a completely new design head, with a patented counterbalance system.
Capable of taking camera‘s up to 50 Kgs (110 lbs) @ 30 cm (12“) above
the heads pivotal centre. Operated by a single control knob, from 0 –
100 %. Incorporating the well proven Ronford-Baker fluid system, with 15
stages of fluid control, on pan & tilt. With a zero (free)
position. These give unprecedented smoothness & accuracy of control
& balance under all situations.

The Ronford-Baker Atlas 7 is a completely new patented design fluid head. Incorporating a strong, rigid design with minimum platform flex, together with the well proven Ronford-Baker fluid system.
The Ronford-Baker Fluid 7 head is designed for use with film or video/EFP cameras. Its two sealed fluid units allow control to be varied through seven stages, from a cushioned free movement to the heaviest control required, by the use of three simple on/off levers. Both pan and tilt actions are continuous through 360 º, depending on the length of the lens and camera. The Fluid 7 can be supplied with a variety of platform widths, quick change spacing blocks and riser plates as illustrated. The platform is adjustable for height to suit the centre of gravity of the camera in use. A second pan bar of the platform, with ratchet adjustment to suit the required height.

How do they shoot those silky-smooth timelapse travelling shots? Or a precisely moving, gliding tabletop product shot?
Sliders are great, but they’re only as smooth as the finesse with which you can operate them. For really smooth slider moves, the trick is to be sure you’re using the new Ronford-Baker Motorised Slider.
Its controller is a zoom control-sized hand unit that you can program for feathered starts and stops.
The motor moves a 4-keyed Mitchell mount along the slider with a toothed belt at speeds from fast 1 ft/sec to slow 1 ft/min. You can add the Motorised Unit to existing Ronford Sliders, or order the complete set. It’s available in lengths from 25” to 96”, and custom lengths as well.

Patented Mitchell fitting Bazooka Base which incorporates massive strength, a stable build platform, fast construction and ultra-versatility into its modular design. Fixed or Adjustable Riser options. Castor & Track Skate Wheels available.
International Patent Applied For. Application No. PCT.GB 02/003825
Massive strength, stable build platform, fast construction, ultra-versatile, modular design, no cost constraint design. The main design points we set ourselves when we started work on a new system three years ago.
Since then, a couple of sets prototypes, days and weeks of real world and simulated testing, we now have what we believe to be the best bazooka system available – anywhere.
A new connection.
We have taken another look at how we join the elements of camera supports together.
The EuroBoss, with it‘s 100 mm diameter mating face is just not strong enough, put together a boss-type bazooka column of more than 600 mm, add a large fluid head or gears and see how much flex you‘ve put up with.
The 7“ Mitchell fitting is very strong, but too time consuming to assemble, how often has that nut been cursed by the grip? Who then needs to find a Tommy bar or seat riser to ‘hammer’ it tight.
Our patented connection starts with a ‘true’ Mitchell top fitting, adds a quickly removable tri-point adaptor, and with it‘s opposite becomes a fast, familiar, very secure fitting.
Put the two elements together, spin down the knurled nut – don‘t even go hand tight, and pull the lock-lever. that‘s it. The lock-lever then folds up out of the way. All of the parts in our new bazooka system, from base to leveler, use this connection method.
The Base
Any camera support can only be as strong as its base – obvious
really. So why continue to build from flimsy, Euro Boss type bases?
We have produced an ultra-strong Mitchell base, deep section legs
Modular Design – All the legs and ends are interchangeable
Use up to three, 200 mm long sections on each leg or just use the ends. There‘s even a 100 mm section and hinge joint, the combinations are endless
Any of the levelling jacks can easily be replaced by scaffold tubes – securely held by the built-in clamps. Uses no tools to change its configuration.
Castor wheels and skate bogies are also available
The Riser Elements
We believe our low-weight riser elements to be the strongest, most
rigid available. A set of 5 elements of 100, 150, 200, 400 and 800 mm
in length give the widest range of size combinations for the minimum
number of pieces.
Three-leg design using a custom extrusion, CNC machined billet alloy components and high-tensile stainless steel provide massive strength, high torsional rigidity and no rust. The no-welding construction allows for easy repair.
Adjustable Risers
Strong, rigid, as light as possible – a common design theme.
Our new wind-up risers are made in the same way as the rest of the system. CNC machined billet alloys, high tensile stainless steel, special metal treatments.
High payload capacity.
No tools required to either fit or adjust.
Optimised gearbox ratio allows easy height adjust under full load –
without affecting the level. Available in two height ranges, 300 to 410
mm and 600 to 1000 mm.
The Leveller
Our new 4-way combi leveller, designed with multiple base options
including Bazooka, Mitchell and Euro fittings designed to level the
camera as quick and intuitive as possible.
A design that provides a firm, stable Mitchell fitting at angles up to 15 degrees all ways. Uses straight levels that are only affected by one adjuster. Gives side access to the Mitchell top fitting, with minimum overall height.
Dolly Systems
By incorporating the ‘T’ Section with your Bazooka System you can convert the base into a dolly.
4 Way Combi Leveller
There are 3 available bases, Euro, Mitchell and Bazooka Style, all fit into a Peli 1610 case.
